3 Idiots(2009): Cast, Reviews, and Release Date

It is a 2009 Hindi film directed by Rajkumar Hirani and co-written by him and Abhijat Joshi about a group of adolescents coming of age. Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor, Boman Irani and Omi Vaidya star in the film. An Indian engineering college is the setting for this satire about the social pressures that arise under the Indian education system. It is told through parallel dramas set in the present and 15 years ago.

Art of Cinema:
The film was produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra under Vinod Chopra Films and based on Chetan Bhagat's novel Five Point Someone: What not to do at IIT! It featured real Indian inventions by Remya Jose, Mohammad Idris, Jahangir Painter, and Sonam Wangchuk, whose authors were not adequately credited. In 2009, it was released to widespread critical and commercial acclaim. Moreover, it held the record for the highest opening day collections for a Bollywood film up until that point, as well as the highest net collections for a Bollywood film in the first week. The film became successful in East Asian markets such as China and Japan, bringing its worldwide gross to $90 million – it was the highest-grossing Indian film of the time. A social impact of the film was also felt in India, as well as other Asian countries.

There were six Filmfare Awards for the film, including the Best Film award, and three National Film Awards, including the Best Popular Film award. Overseas, it won the Grand Prize at the Videoyasan Awards and was nominated for Best Outstanding Foreign Language Film at the Japan Academy Awards. It was remade in Tamil as Nanban (2012), which was also critically acclaimed and commercially successful. In 2017, 3 idiots, a Mexican remake, was released.
