Trek Overview:
The trek begins from Chopta, a quaint village situated at an altitude of about 2,680 meters (8,790 feet). Often referred to as "Mini Switzerland of India," Chopta is famous for its lush meadows, dense forests, and sweeping views of the snow-clad Himalayan peaks. It serves as the base for the trek to Tungnath Temple, one of the highest temples dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Tungnath Temple:
The main highlight of the trek is the Tungnath Temple, located at an elevation of 3,680 meters (12,073 feet). It is the highest of the five Panch Kedar temples, making it a significant pilgrimage site for Hindus. The temple offers a serene, spiritual experience amidst awe-inspiring views of snow-covered peaks such as Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba. The trek to Tungnath from Chopta is a moderate climb, covering a distance of about 3.5 kilometers (2.2 miles) that can be completed in around 4-5 hours.
